By: Baily HustonBaily Huston 4/11/18- A new season for the Woodland High School Baseball team began February 28th. Last season the boys were 6-8. Looking to improve and hopefully find themselves in the hunt for a chance at Districts. The Beavers are currently 6-4 and 1-2 in league. Just coming off a huge win against Hockinson they were looking to keep the momentum going into their next game against Mark Morris. The beavers were wanting to get their revenge on last years loss. The game was held Wednesday, April 11th at home. Senior Baily Huston said “as long as we are working together and playing all 7 innings I can definitely see us going to the postseason.” Although last season wasn’t the best for the team, Huston believes that the team had grown a lot from last year because the varsity team took the offseason as a time to get better and fix their mistakes from last season.” Ryan Cooney, Wyatt Wooden, and Christian Yager will all be pitching for the team this year. The expectations this year for the team are good as Yager said “I expect the team to play hard and work together to win some ball games.” Both jv and varsity played La Center on March 10th and both teams came up top. The varsity game was a close one with the score being 6-5. Freshman Brady Burns had a walkoff base hit to give the Beavers the win. The last game of the season will be home against RA long May 1st for JV and for varsity depending on if they will make it to the postseason. The boys will have to finish in the top five out of their league to make it to the postseason and how they will do that is by “working together and doing what is best for the team” said junior Reid Hope. Hopefully the team will progress further than last year and make a run in the postseason. Be sure to go and show your Beaver spirit by supporting the team.
